| What would the fans say if LoTR was published today? (Short, but utterly brilliant.) Also, for those wanting their cracktastic Torchwood back, may I recommend ask_aboutcoffee's HE HAS MY SHOES AGAIN. (1700+ comments at this point. SPOILERS FOR S3!) For those unfamiliar with the Ask-verse, Sam has a guide here (No spoilers, written pre-S3). Go forth and enjoy! (You like unfurling comment threads, yes? Because they are LEGION! I've barely had the tiniest look myself, but oh the crack, it is FABULOUS.) | |

| I'm looking for a fic that I don't really remember anything about but I think it was spander (I almost only read spander) and one little tiny bit from the the beginning (i think) of the fic.
Buffy and Giles were researching something and Buffy went to the kitchen to grab a soda and asked if Giles wanted anything and he said no, then she came back and somehow there were donuts and Giles wanted a jelly one and Buffy asked why he didn't say he wanted one when she asked if he wanted anything.
This has been drivin me insane for weeks and I can't find anything when I look through my bookmarks so now I'm admitting defeat and turning the case over to the professionals . | |

| For long, plotty and original NCIS Gibbs/DiNozzo fics, look no further than Lady Ra. Some of you in the SGA fandom may recognise her from her McShep classic Loving Rodney. Back to the NCIS fics, Tears and History are great, but I love Sensing Evil for its weird and unexpected supernatural creepiness. Consider this one definitely AU! I'm currently reading the beautiful McShep verse Nantucket and it reminds me of all the wonderfully written fics in that fandom and it's prompted me to start my Top Twenty Fics of all Time. Multi-fandom. I think it would be interesting to figure it out, post and then come back to it every six months to see how much it's changed. Right now I'm just trying to make a random list of memorable fics from all my fandoms. Erm, this might take some time, especially as I intend to re-read all the serious contenders. Eeep. | |

| Fans of BtVS stuff: Go read this. It's the first of a semi-series (they work alone, but I they *really* go together) by new LJ-er waddis. Anyway, the one I linked to, the first one, is about Xander, and there are three more, one each for Willow, Dawn and Buffy. The series is set post S7, but pre-S8 comics (and allows for comics continuity, but doesn't really reference it or require any knowledge of it). Really good stuff. Head over and take a look. | |

| My granddaddy has swine flu so he's not eating, of course. Today I made two kinds of soup (potato and corn chowder with corn he grew himself) and indicated to him that if he didn't eat it he'd have to deal with serious nagging (update: he ate). In the process of gathering the ingredients for the soup and commencing to cooking I managed to give myself a goddamned heat stroke! I have become a pussy. Between the black interior of my car and clogging up my pores with a megaasston of lotion I just frazzled myself. When you see black spots on the edge of your vision that's nature's warning sign that you should sit down a moment. I think the last time I had a heat stroke was in Tennessee. Galling, truly, to a native Floridian. Anyway, the heat stroke did not prevent me from cooking the soup, because I am made of heartier stock than that shit. I'm sure you're excited to learn that this year I am tackling learning all the family preserve recipes and relearning to can. This is mostly a keep busy project for my grandfather since he (like all old folks) likes to be useful. So I asked him to help me and so now we have a project. A jar of home grown stewed tomatoes in December is one of the simple pleasures of life. I pity you city mice. EXPECT CANNED GOODS FOR YOUR HOLIDAYS as I expect this should turn...epic. (I don't do things in half measures, for those new folks.) ( True Blood )Where is all the fic? Damn. I think there are 11 people in the fandom is the problem. *weeps blood like Bill* Spoilers for the books in the comments. UPDATE: Stoney is actually writing the damned Twilight/TB xover fic of crack par excellence click click click | |

| So this is based on a conversation in ethrosdemon's journal and went from there, because she encourages me to do bad things. Based on my fannon of the Sparkleverse (aka Twilight) and the Sookie Stackhouse books. Heads up, there are (obviously) spoilers for some story lines under the cut. Guys, if you didn't realize that the Cullens were Mormon and those books are a subconscious missionary call from SMeyer, here's your clue. :) Note: this is me typing into a window. There could be random errors. It's LJ, not my dissertation at Cambridge, dig me? *G* Crack ahoy-hoy! ( Epistolary Story of the Cullens clan reaching out to the vampires of Fangtasia, aka Sookie-verse, aka True Blood [kinda] ) | |

| Well, I just got woken up bright and early this morning by a phone call. From FedEx. Who wanted to let me know that they haven't picked up my package yet, which is why I haven't received it. There was apparently trouble with customs, thanks to at least part of it coming out of Mexico, and they haven't even got it from Dell yet. None of that was mentioned in the e-mail that I received from a Dell representative yesterday. In fact, I was told that the computer had been picked up by FedEx, and it was very much implied that the delay was the fault of the shipping company and not Dell itself. Needless to say, I'm not very happy at the moment. I just got off the phone with Dell, where I had a conversation that involved the words "lies" and "cancel" and "full refund" and "recommend that everyone I know make sure never to buy from your company again." Those words led them to promise that a computer (whether or not it's the one that's stuck in limbo or another one that they'll be building, most likely in one of their Tennessee plants) would arrive at my house by this Thursday at the very latest and that they would do everything possible to ensure that it arrives even earlier. I'm giving them three more days, mostly because I have my heart set on this computer and all its shiny features. If I don't get it by Thursday, which is my next day off (the other being today), there will be hell to pay. Of course, the problem is that I'm opening the restaurant for the next two mornings, which means I won't be home until at least 2:00pm if the FedEx truck shows up before then. | |

| So, I have these running shorts that washa_way handed down to me because they didn't fit him right. (They fit me even less right, but they're comfy and the blousiness of the shorts makes my thighs look weeeeeee.) And this morning I noticed for the first time that, in the built-in underpants in these shorts, there is this weird...thing. (Shut up.) It's like a foam smile-shape sewn into the, ah, lower front area? (And I just cracked washa_way up by saying, "Wait, is it a smile or a FROWN?" and standing up and dropping my pants to check....it's a smile.) It's not nearly enough padding for the shorts to work as bike shorts or anything. It's approximately smile-SIZED, as well as shaped. The fella has no clue--they were hand-me-downs to him to start with, I think. I'm guessing maybe it's...for extra sweat absorption just under the balls maybe? Or sort of to help...cup them out front, more than under, so they don't get as hot to start with? Help me out, o flist guys! Or gals intimately acquainted with the running shorts of guys! | |

| Wired has a Really Interesting Article up that is about dinosaur collagen in ridiculously old bones, and ostrich blood, and like half a dozen other really cool things, but what it is more about than any of that is science, skepticism and the scientific process. I was drawn in by the T-Rex, I stayed for the computational analysis and repeatable results. And stuff. Anyway, take a look, it's a good read. | |

| There are so many great Spander fics that can only be found at Geocities, which will be closing soon. The problem is that some of those fics are written by authors that had left fandom, so there will be no way of finding them again. How about we collect the Spander fics in Geocities sites and either add them to the Spander Files or create a new site for them. Most knowable site will be BtVS Slash: http://www.geocities.com/btvsslash2/ | |

| kathyh reminisces about the fannish events of yesteryear, which made me hunt down one of my oldest lj posts about w how fans would react if Lord of the Rings had been published in the age of the internet. From 2003. Not much has changed, huh? To get back to kathyh's entry, in which she quotes and creates a meme: What is the big fannish event you wish you could have seen? (Seen the live reaction to, anyway.) But even more important - what are the big fannish events you'll never forget? What were they like to live through?Let's see. What did I witness, from afar or close-up, or not: ( Spoilers for Star Wars, Star Trek, Buffy, Angel, Harry Potter, New Who and Farscape ensue ) | |
